Let’s Care for One Another

WE HOLD A MEN’S CALL EVERY MONTH. SIGN UP FOR CALL-IN DETAILS

I am looking forward to our time together tonight. We need to care for one another.

I have been concerned by thoughts of the women and children who are not safe in their own homes. We have reports of “global rise in domestic violence cases as Covid-19 lockdown turns into captivity for many women.” Futures Without Violence is one of a diversity of resources for those of us that want to help.

It can be too easy to consider the worst of cases. And not look at what we are doing. Patriarchy is insidious. It lives within us. And it is showing up. Right now. As many of us grapple with life during a pandemic.

If we don’t take care of ourselves. And we don’t take care of one another. Then our worst parts will show up. And we will hurt more than we help.

Are you living alone? Without human touch?

Are you spending way more time with your partner and your kids than you ever have before?

How are you showing up at home?

How are you showing up for others?

How are you coping with fear, anxiety and economic vulnerability?

It’s a lot. And much of it is a direct challenge to culturally conditioned conceptions of manhood. We are coping with a lot of emotion and uncertainty. And many of us lack the space to hold and be held by others.

Let’s come tonight ready to care for another. Let’s continue to nurture this web of mutual care and support. Let’s find healthy ways to be with what is going on. To turn towards it with clarity and courage. To become better men. When better men are most needed.

See you soon,

Saludos,

Gibrán
