The Righteous King
This month, in our slow reading of of “King, Warrior, Magician, Lover,” we’ve been contemplating “The Two Functions of the King in His Fullness”
The first responsibility of the King is to live according to what is right. The role of the King is to embody order in his own person first. The societal contribution comes second.
It is by living in righteousness that we allow righteousness to flourish.
It takes great maturity and skill to discern our way into what this means. We live in a cultural moment that is defined by overwhelming self-righteousness, by virtue signaling and performative wokeness.
Our media technology keeps our limbic systems hijacked in an endless storm of moral outrage. Those of us that seek to be conscious and good, those of us that want to be better men, can get caught in an endless anxiety about how to perform virtue, and how to make sure that our dark side doesn’t show up and get caught.
It is not easy to discern, but it is supremely important that we find the way to turn to this King that reigns within. To learn to trust body, heart, ancestral wisdom and spiritual longing. To find the way to be righteous, and stay authentic and kind.
Let’s practice.
See you tonight.
