Talking Masculinity
My friend “T” Anthony Maes, the dharma teacher @dharma_homie_t on instagram, and a brother who is doing beautiful work embodying conscious masculinity, just shared a hypothetical conversation on masculinity.
The author of the blog “Kloncke,” imagines a conversation among a group of men who are very different from each other. The range includes:
The incredibly popular, hyper masculine (and I think dangerous) Andrew Tate
The spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle, who the author describes as “very yin,” a man who never has a need to “flex.”
And the remarkable artist, Dimash Qudaibergen, who seems to bend all notions of gender with his unbelievable vocal range.
The conversation is cool. I appreciate what the author is doing. These hypotheticals are brilliant ways to engage an idea. But what took me by surprise was when he added me(!!!) along with Thich Nhat Han, to the list of luminaries participating in this hypothetical conversation.
Needless to say, I am flattered enough to share it with you. But I also share it because I like the way the author makes room for a broad set of perspectives in this exploration. It is so important to think, contemplate and learn by stretching beyond the binds of our ideological filter bubbles. It is good to pull in the thoughts of people who might otherwise repel us.
This is how we stay nimble. It is how we break through binaries and begin to find new ways.
Check out the piece here: A Few Good Men: How Would Dimash, Andrew Tate, and Eckhart Tolle Debate Masculinity?
Enjoy. It is good to be in community with you.
I look forward to returning to our work on the archetype of the magician when we gather again on Monday, April 3.
