True Power
What do you know about Terry Crews? I can’t say I’ve followed his career closely. But I’ve been impressed by the way he talks about his journey and his growth.
Tim Ferriss has interviewed him a couple of times. And here I’m sharing an episode where he talks about his journey to true power.
Terry does a good job of moving us through his journey from being an utterly angry and selfish man to being a man who can finally acknowledge his own weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
It is a shift away from an outdated, deeply masculine idea of power and into the experience of true power. I am specially moved by the feedback he gets from his family, when they start to clearly see that he’s become a new man.
Change takes time. It is not easy. It demands honesty and humility. But it does happen. We do grow. When we commit to it.

PS For folks in Boston, my friend Jon Barry has a few openings in an on-going Men’s Group. It meets from 3:30-5pm on Thursdays and runs in cycles of 12 weeks. The next cycle will start on June 23rd and runs into September. Fee is a sliding scale of $10-$50 per session for 12 weeks. Meetings are in-person in Roslindale, weather-permitting.
The group incorporates elements of mindfulness-based stress reduction, active listening, and Internal Family Systems. It aims to foster emotional expression and mutual support among participants.
